Florida Caverns State Park Veterans Day Event

The Florida park system serves more than 31 million visitors, resulting in an economic impact of $2.8 billion. More than 45,525 jobs were created as a result of these contributions to the local economies. Volunteers have a significant impact in keeping parks operational, which in turn helps their local economies.
Become active in your community and support the natural gems of Marianna! This is the perfect opportunity to interact with others who share your interest and learn all about the “Friends” of the Florida Caverns: who we are, what we do, and how you can become involved!

PAST EVENTS:

The April General Business Meeting Friends of Florida at Sonny's BBQ in Marianna featured a presentation by Caverns ranger Billy Bailey featuring several artifacts collected from the local area, including a large mastodon tooth, ancient Native American tools and arrow heads, a Civil War bullet
and other interesting relics. -
Astronomy Night

Astronomy Night at the Caverns featured the Tallahassee Astronomy Club (TAC) presented their program for some 225 participants that included telescope viewing and a video presentaiton. Friends of the Florida Caverns (CSO) members Mike, Debbie, Joseph, and Lois helped with the event. Highlighting the event was a view of the rings of Saturn.

GEOCACHING is the real-world treasure hunting adventure that’s happening right now, all around you. Geocachers use GPS enabled devices to seek out treasures called geocaches. These containers are cleverly hidden by geocachers from the 6-million-strong global community. There are over two million geocaches hidden around the world, so there’s almost certainly one near you. The Florida Caverns State Park and the Friends of the Florida Caverns offer many volunteer opportunities including leading cavern tours, grounds keeping, maintenance, first person interpretation, wildlife programs, nature walks, campground host, children’s programs, fund raising activities, trail maintenance, resource management and river cleanup.
